POLICE ABUSING DEAF JUMPS 100%

** Paul's note:

For a long time, I have been getting information from deaf communities from sea to shining sea. It is the same story all over again. Police abusing deaf has now jumped 100%! This is as result of a recent story from Rochester, NY.

This is a result of AG Bell and his regime encouraging audism and abuses in the community. It is time to buck the trend and turn things around and stop them in the tracks! 128 years of abuses have to STOP now!

There are more stories around the country that needs to be told about police abusing deaf people!

I did have vlog about this story on December 19, 2007. I have gotten many inquiries and some do not believe me. ok! I give you this opportunity to read this story from Rochester. You decide what you think should be done.

Of course, sensitivity training and learning ASL are both steps in the right direction.

But the Rochester, NY police chief said it was 'NOT REQUIRED".

This is wrong as every cop in every jurisdication should know and be aware of the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing!

We need to draw the line in the sand to stop them from abusing us!

Thank you!

Paul

Deaf: Police Lax in Communication

Rochester is considered one of the most deaf-friendly cities in the country. Those who are hard of hearing say you would never know it by the actions of the police department. They feel officers are lacking in communication skills when it comes to dealing with the deaf.

Chief David Moore says sign language is not a requirement for police officers, but the training is there if requested.

"That is something that they can pursue,” Moore said. “We do have members of our staff who are extremely knowledgeable in sign language and also we have interpreters who are on call."

Many of the problems between police and the deaf community occur during routine traffic stops. Sometimes that communication barrier can turn a driving violation into something more.

That's what Jesus Colon experienced last summer. The NTID student was stopped for running a stop sign. In an attempt to explain that he was deaf, Colon says police didn't let him use a pen and paper or call for an interpreter.

"Through my window he grabs my hands, twists them, grabs my neck, throws me against the back of my chair,” Colon explained. “I have no communication at this moment. My wrist is twisted, I'm thrown around, I can't sign anymore, I can't communicate anymore, I've been physically attacked. I cannot express my thoughts, he's got my neck against the door and it was a terrible, terrible moment."

In most cases, the charges end up being dropped because of the communication breakdown. Others with similar experiences say the police are neglecting the deaf community.

“I felt that there was disrespect, that they didn't care about my needs and that they were going to very quickly provide citations without even providing clear communications,” said Barbara Kane of Rochester. “So being left out in this fish bowl is just inappropriate."

And they believe with Rochester's large deaf population, it's up to the police improve communication.

"I hope that today the police will develop an orientation every other month for them to develop a better understanding of the priorities for the deaf community,” Carmen Sciandra of Rochester said. “Police should be prepared and aware of knowledge and learning."

NTID MOCKS DEAF COMMUNITY BY KEEPING BELL

** This video was made 2 years ago when Paul discovered the truth in who invented the telephone so the true telephone inventor was someone else other than AG Bell!

Paul said on the Orange Brown Coalition blog:

This is interesting how Alan went that way.

He needs to be more sensitive to the Deaf Community. He has too much oralism pride in his heart that he cannot change things like the Deaf Community wants.

He does use ASL but he should know better how Bell abused the Deaf community and he went to extremes to trying to remove the deaf from the human race.

I declared him (A.G. Bell) a Hitler born before the real Hitler was born and that was around 1984. He conspired Hitler to kill 6 million Jewish people.

My eyes opened wider when I worked at Gallaudet College Library back in 1972. I was shocked to find so many secrets in the basement of Gallaudet Library. This is how and why the doors are opening up now to expose the dark secrets of audism that started in 1880.

The infamous Milan conference ruined many Deaf lives the last 128 years.

Bell is reaching out of his grave to thank Alan for keeping his name on the dorm building. This is a mockery as Bell had nothing to do with NTID or RIT at all. Prove me wrong?

The bottom line is that the Deaf community already expressed its desire to see the Bell plaque removed and the dorm be renamed to honor deaf person who made have contributions to the Deaf community.

Like hell, Bell is not a contributor to deaf community. He was traitor, liar, cheater and thief. He stole the telephone invention from Meucci so it was not Bell's idea.

His mother and wife were deaf so it showed how shameful Bell was in trying to remove deaf from the human race.....

The bottom line is that Alexander Graham Bell has no place in the Deaf history anymore except he was a villian and traitor!

Why honor a villian and traitor?

Does Germany have a place for Hitler? It is a BIG NO!

So Alexander Graham Bell has to GO!

So my dear friend, Alan, please reconsider your actions and honor the Deaf community.

Thank you!

P.S. As a protest for not removing the plaque and renaming the building, I will not come to the alumni reunion (40th). I have not been back to NTID much lately as it promoted audism and lack of respect for true Deaf culture.

So I say GOOD BYE to NTID!

DEPT MENTAL HEALTH HAS SCREWED US ROYALLY!!!

A MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT FOR MISSOURI DEAF COMMUNITY: DMH HAS SCREWED US ROYALLY!!!

A recent termination of Dr. Barry Critchfield shows the lack of respect that Missouri Department of Mental Health has for the Missouri Deaf Community. This is a BIG black eye for each of us who have been advocating and wanting to see Department of Mental Health be more receptive to the needs of deaf and hard of hearing consumers.

It is deja vu all over again as we lost Steve Hamerdinger about five years ago. This shows that the management of Department of Mental Health are playing games with us. They prefer to play with money and keep the money to themselves and curry favors to anyone who brownnose the fat cats (politicians) in the state government and the community.

Effective upon the termination of Dr. Barry Critchfield, the Missouri Department of Mental Health is now liable and open for lawsuits. They are violating Americans with Disabilities Act by shutting down the Deaf program and not listening to our suggestions for improvements for the last decade. Dr. Barry Critchfield has been a staunch supporter of providing mental health services to the deaf and hard of hearing Missourians. He is to be recognized for trying to keep his foot in the DMH door.

To be frank, I have been advocating for mental health services for more than 35 years. I have experienced the private programs under mental health. I think the Missouri State has to get off its giant butt and focus on implementing the program that Steve Hamerdinger tried to propose and implement.

The state program needs to be accessable to the Deaf Community. For more than 50 years, many deaf have fallen through the cracks due to negligent and bureaucratic policies made by the hearing people at the Department of Mental Health. There is no meat in the program for the last decade. Despite the growh in the 1990's, it still lacked the meat of the program.

It took a suicide by a deaf man in Kansas City to shock the state legislature into implementing deaf program at the state mental health facilities. (I may be wrong but I am remembering from the scores of meetings the last 35 years.) There have been more suicides the past few years compared to the past. It happened a lot in rural areas. Many deaf are lonely in the rural areas as well as small towns around Missouri.

The deaf education and programs have been politically abused and lack the real dignity for the deaf and hard of hearing. There was no real truth in providing a convenient and direct program for the deaf. The majority of hearing people tend to politicize and manipulate the system to their ways. There was no real respect for the deaf in the community, employment, government, social programs, schools,

The Department of Mental Health refused to accept the Deaf Community's proposal to implement program at Missouri DMH. They just threw Steve Hamerdinger out the door. They repeated the same thing just recently with Dr. Barry Critchfield.

Both Barry and Steve are successful administrators of deaf programs in South Carolina and Alabama respectively. I am questioning as to why it happened twice. What is wrong with the DMH? It requires a check and balance now! Time is now to go to their offices and ask why they are messing up with our lives. We do need mental health services. We know it costs money to run the programs.

It is hell cheaper to hire deaf professionals to provide mental health programs and services. They have been squandering millions of dollars in interpreting. It is not working and only interpreters are richer benefitting the kind of compensation. That compensation should have gone to deaf professionals who strive for excellence and quality in providing mental health services.

I challenge you to think about this. Everytime the management at DMH meet, they do not think of real needs of deaf people. They are too busy covering their butts in satisfying the politicians. They have been in hot water with several deaths at a mental health facility in north St. Louis.

What they did for the past decade is no excuse. I am still alive because I thought of suicides in the past. I am the kind of person who can think suicide. I have gotten stronger to overcome the urges of suicide. I had difficult childhood with my family. My parents went through a very bitter divorce and I was the victim of the fights between them. I felt like a failure to them. I opened my mouth when I told my mother about my dad's girlfriend.

I did not know what it meant about relationships. My mother hit the roof and kicked my father out of house. She filed paperwork for divorce. It was unheard of in 1960 and my church disowned her. Divorce was a no no in 1960 and in Roman Catholic church. I had to deal with major embarrassment from my friends and strangers .

I started thinking suicide when I was in early teens. I was placed in mainstreamed programs. It was from 1967 to 1971. There were no interpreters. I had to use lipreading for the four years at a hearing high school. It was never easy task. I have thought of suicide many times. I thought of putting my car in garage to end my life. It did not work! I thought of cutting my wrists. I had razor blades and I hesitated and cut my fingers only. It drew blood and I was feeling confused. I kept this to myself for years and years.

The last attempt was having a noose around my neck. That was in 1988. I lost my business, my dad was dying and my family was very dysfunctional. I had hard time at work and trying to do more. I finally had noose around my neck. I got off chair. I remember the gasp for air and I struggled and got off the noose. I broke down and cried. I told my family what happened. They took me to a private hospital to get mental health services. My private insurance covered everything. The program was accessable. My psychiarist was receptive and focused on my issues.

So it has been now 20 years. I decide to channel my frustrations into advocacy and focus on improving the needs of services and programs for our deaf community. I do not feel the need to do anything anymore. I just want to live and see the results. However, there is no opportunity for aftercare programs. It is sorely lacking. Most of deaf do not have insurance to cover the costs of mental health services.

This is how and why we need mental health programs to help all kinds of people with depression, suicide, and many other vices in life that affects mentally. We need programs to make us stronger and move on. We need to initiate a lawsuit against DMH to implement the programs that Steve Hamerdinger and Barry Critchfield have been addressing for us.

Those deaf lives who have been lost are the markers on their watch and their files. They have failed our deaf friends so we need to get our sleeves rolled up and do more advocacy for mental health services for the deaf community. Other states have succeeded because the deaf took them to the court.

NOW IT IS OUR TURN TO TAKE MISSOUR DMH TO THE COURT! It shows their track record of kicking out Steve and Barry when they tried to implement programs for the deaf. Come on! Let's get off our butts and act on getting lawsuit ready!

This message is for Missouri Department of Mental Health! We are coming for you guys and we will be ready to initiate lawsuits against DMH!

Send e-mails to Keith Schafer at Keith.Schafer@dmh.mo.gov

Ask him to please re-instate Dr. Barry Critchfield!!! We need to finish the job that we started years ago and get the funding to cover the programs! DMH cannot screw us anymore. I need your help now! Please tell Keith Schafer to re-instate Dr. Barry Critchfield.

Thank you for reading my request for appealling to DMH!

    Sincerely,

    Paul J. Kiel

HAVING DEAF CHILDREN HEAR IS A PIPE DREAM!

Whoo! Whoo! I am amused when hearing parents or professionals show their ignorance in deaf issues.

That’s trouble when they have horse blinders on!

They are the ones causing problems.

    Knowledge is power!

What the CI users are trying to say are telling truth!

I have seen CI companies sweeping dirt under rugs…and same for one friend who tried to do her research. She contacted Gallaudet University to find out more….the University were unable to reply to her request. It was like snow job or cover up.

Like I said, money talks! It is the greed that engulfs the audists into more greed and more control over the useless technology. It is just plain expensive hearing aids.

It is plain snake oil! Same old practice from the old westerns!

They (audists/doctors/oral programs) are laughing their way to banks for pulling wool over poor parents.

    Truth will prevail!

Shame on those liars in this scandal and conspiracy to hurt many poor deaf children!

Having deaf children hear is a pipe dream!

The only one who can perform miracles is the man upstairs! Not any medical profession or any of us!

    Capsice?

HOT DIGGITY DAMN! YES, ORALISM HINDERS EDUCATION!

A vlog about his comments on Carl Schroeder's vlog on "ORALISM HINDERS EDUCATION!".

This script is for signing impaired.

Hot Diggity Damn! Yes, It is a fact that oralism hinders education!!! it has been that way since 1880. This is what and why AG Bell and his cronies developed a system to oppress deaf for years and years.

Many parents are fooled into believing that their children will succeed in life. There seem to be higher divorce rates among those parents of oral children. I grew up in oral programs and I have seen plenty. It is not a pretty picture. It is high time that everyone talk about what happened and stop the lies.

As for the recent vlog by Carl Schroeder - Kakula's Corner, I agree with him 100 percent. It is a fact that oralism hinders what the deaf need. It is a simple form of audism.

See the picture in black and white. That was 41 years ago this coming fall that Dr. Silverman asked me to come with him to a presentation at Laclede Gas Company downtown St. Louis. I was starting first year in public school. I was 15 at that time. You know I have been obedient at times to certain people.

But that day in Fall of 1967 was a turning point of starting to hate oralism. I was tired of being paraded around from one place to another at CID's whims. They wanted me to go and help them fundraise through the United Fund which is now the United Way.

That day was the day I started to protest and made demands. I told Dr. Silverman to stop using me and to stop calling my mom every Fall when they needed me. I had enough of giving them what they wanted. I was upset when Dr. Silverman wanted to demonstrate how oralism worked. I told Dr. Silverman that I did not want his grubby hands on my face anymore and I got tired of being in public limelight.

I had to face public humilitation at a junior high school. My friends teased me about the picture being in the newspaper. I ran home to cry and was suffering depression and humilitation. I wanted to be equal with my hearing friends, but that picture in newspaper changed my life forever. I did not need the teasing and ribbing about how the old man touched my face and the stuff.

I told my mother to stop accepting calls from CID. I went to extremes to tell Dr. Lane, the principal of CID. She told me that I was her favorite pet, yet she was the meanest woman as well as Miss Helen Woodward who slammed the ruler on my hands. Dr. Lane expected me to follow her high expectation of being a role model of oralism. I told her that I would prefer to learn sign language like my brother and other people did. She tried to coax me to stay on oralism side and I said something was not right.

More information and events that transpired after that terrible experience are in my book.

Now on the second picture in color, this was me talking to the newspaper reporter during the Moog protest. Mrs. Moog was fired from her job at CID and I was at CID to encourage CID to adopt ASL and follow the true method of deaf education that included total communication (as a compromise). I had seven people join me in public protest. I issued a press conference to tell the story.

Guess what? The meanest of all, Mrs. Tash (my former speech teacher) squashed my press conference and took the people off to get inside the building. Of course, I got very upset about how Mrs. Tash acted and I got even worse when other people walked off and continued to support the evil woman by the name of Mrs. Moog. She was the same lady I chewed her out years earlier when she looked down on the ILY stamp. The newspaper reporter did not print what I was trying to tell her. It was obvious she did NOT understand anything I said. The story in papers were biased. It is same game that hearing people play to protect themselves.

Now back to Carl Schroeder and others about oralism hindering education, it is a fact. I have seen scores of deaf friends suffer from lack of education. The teachers were too busy correcting our speech and making sure we do things their way. It reeks of audism at its best!

Those people from oral programs are listed in the hall of shame! Yes, the Hall of Shame!
