This video is a narrative about what Paul says about audism causing deaf mental health problems. Carl Shroeder hit the nail right when it came to being "realistic" about your identity.
Show Me Deaf Community is a b/vlog about what I see and what the Deaf Community show me in daily life. The author is a.k.a. Deaf Advocate on other blogs. He believes in Deaf Advocacy and the rights of the Deaf in all aspects of life from birth to grave. It is a human right and a testimony to facts of life affecting the deaf community. He firmly believes in Laurent Clerc and his contributions to the New World. George Veditz is another one! He predicted videophones in 1913!

Thank you! There exist teo types of teaching the Deaf: mechanism and meaning. Mechanism entails a functionalist account of how speech works. Meaning begins with critical thinking and its telling. The meaning of being Deaf is essential to American Sign Language (ASL), neither more nor less.
Many people (Adults), who acquire deafness seem to suffer some sort of reverse of this. Being brought up totally orally and hearing, they go deaf and suffer the isolation from that, and also develop mental health issues, based on being deaf.
What sort of 'back up' and support is suggested to help them ? Sign language ? deaf culture ? The inability to cope with those also promotes poor mental health. As I stated in my blog a while ago, 40% of deaf children here are already exhibiting mental health problems, but it seems across the board and not just down to communication approaches.
They are aware of communications today which are instant and go at a bewildering pace, and sign or not, speech or not, are not able to keep up, which is the isolation that causes the damage. Britain also has a more fragmented deaf 'society' than America too, so the social grouping (Vital for the cultural aspect to function), is not back up either.
Indenpdence is OK, but a lack of organised social activities, deaf or hearing oriented, means it can all fall down.
